Removal & Installation (Mustang)
- Remove center console. Remove screws securing transmission control gearshift dial bezel. Remove dial bezel and disconnect shifter interlock cable from gearshift lever and interlock cam.
- Disconnect range indicator light and control switch connector. Remove screw retaining gearshift knob and remove handle. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect shift cable from gearshift lever and ball stud. During reassembly, replace plastic clip with NEW part.
- Remove shift cable retaining screws from shifter mounted bracket. Lower vehicle. Remove shifter to floor pan retaining bolts. Remove transmission range gearshift lever assembly.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all bolts and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
CAUTION:
Use caution when lifting up to remove gearshift knob. DO NOT pull knob too far upward, or damage to overdrive cancel button wires may result.
