Section 7 (Anti-Lock Brake System): Description

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) allows the driver to stop VEHICLE in the shortest distance while maintaining steering control. During normal anti-lock operation a pulsation in brake pedal and a clicking sound will be sensed.

System consists of a master cylinder/booster assembly, ABS control module, Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), electric pump/motor, Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch (also functions as brakelight switch), 4 wheel sensors, and 2 warning lights (Amber or Yellow ABS and Red BRAKE). Vehicles with 3.8L engine are equipped with a diaphragm type power brake booster. Vehicles with 4.6L engine are equipped with a BENDIX® hydro-boost brake booster.
