Self-Diagnostic System

NOTE: Before performing self-diagnostics, See TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
NOTE: All Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) tests are for use with New Generation Star (NGS) tester or other OBD-II compliant scan tool.

Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to data link connector. Perform DATALINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If NGS tester responds with CKT 914, CKT 915 or CKT 917=ALL MODULES NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, diagnose network fault. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If NGS tester responds with, NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for Generic Electronic Module (GEM), see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article to diagnose network fault.

If NGS tester responds with SYSTEM PASSED for all modules, retrieve DTCs for GEM. If any DTCs exist, perform appropriate test under SYSTEM TESTS. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE (GEM) DTC INDEX  table. If no DTCs were retrieved, repair system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table and perform appropriate test under SYSTEM TESTS. After repair is completed, clear any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that exist and recheck system for proper operation.
