Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Installation

  1. Ensure valve clearance is correct. See VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT . Install oil control solenoid and bushing, if removed. Ensure crankshaft timing marks are aligned. See TIMING BELT . Apply clean engine oil to camshaft journals and bearings. Install camshafts. Apply silicone sealant to front journal cap sealing surface and install cap. Install camshaft bearing caps in their original location.
  2. Tighten bearing cap bolts, in 2 passes, in sequence to specification. See Fig 2. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Inspect oil control solenoid flange "O" rings and replace as necessary. Install oil solenoid flange bolts and tighten to 88 INCH lbs. (10 N.m) in sequence. See Fig 3. Rotate camshafts one complete turn and check for binding. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten remaining bolts/nuts to specification.
