HVAC System: Description
NOTE:
Article includes information on the ZX2 (Escort 2-Door Coupe).
Heater system is a blend-air design, receiving outside air through an air inlet duct connected to upper cowl. Air is directed through and/or around heater core, mixed, and discharged through outlets to floor, instrument panel and/or defrost nozzles.
The blower motor pulls air from inlet duct and forces it into heater where it is mixed and distributed. Blower motor has 4 speeds and is controlled by blower motor switch and blower motor resistor assembly.
Heater system uses cable and vacuum actuation to control temperature, airflow and air source (recirculated air or fresh air). Control switches are located in Integrated Control Panel (ICP).
WARNING:
To avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and carefully follow all SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM procedures in AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING.
