Draining & Refilling: 4R100

CAUTION: 4WD models use a deep sump oil pan. Failure to use deep sump oil filter on 4WD models can cause transmission damage.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Place drain pan under transmission. Remove drain plugs from oil pan and torque converter. After fluid has drained, install NEW drain plug in torque converter and reinstall oil pan drain plug. Tighten drain plugs to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Remove oil pan bolts. Remove oil pan and gasket.
  2. Inspect transmission oil cooler lines for in-line filter assembly. If vehicle is equipped with in-line filter, replace filter. If vehicle is not equipped with in-line filter, manufacturer recommends installing in-line transmission oil cooler filter.
  3. Remove oil filter and seal. If seal remains in bore, carefully remove using a screwdriver. Install NEW oil filter and seal. Clean oil pan and gasket. Inspect gasket for damage, and replace as necessary. Install oil pan and tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Fill transmission with appropriate fluid. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS . Start engine and shift transmission through all gear ranges. Check fluid level. See CHECKING FLUID LEVELS . Add fluid as necessary.
