Test R: Keyless Entry Keypad Illumination Inoperative

  1. Disconnect 8-pin keyless entry keypad switch harness connector C505. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below instrument panel. Using scan tool, trigger Driver Door Module (DDM) active command KEYPAD BACKLIGHTING. Measure voltage between ground and keyless entry keypad switch harness connector C525 terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire). See Figure . If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, go to step  3 .
  2. Measure resistance between ground and keyless entry keypad switch harness connector C525 terminal No. 5 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace keypad. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Black wire between keyless entry keypad switch and ground point. Ground point is located on right kick panel.
  3. Disconnect 12-pin DDM harness connector C518. Measure resistance between ground and DDM harness connector C518 terminal No. 6 (Light Blue wire). See Figure . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground on Light Blue wire.
  4. Measure resistance on Light Blue wire between DDM harness connector C518 terminal No. 6 and keyless entry keypad switch harness connector C525 terminal No. 2. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open on Light Blue wire.
  5. Disconnect all DDM harness connectors. Check all harness connector and DDM harness connectors and terminals. Repair as necessary. Connect all harness connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace DDM. If problem does not exist, test is complete.
