Description & Operation

Power door locks and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) systems are controlled by Front Electronic Module (FEM), Rear Electronic Module (REM) and RKE module. FEM and REM receive messages from RKE module over a Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP) communication network. FEM is hard-wired to driver's door and controls locking function of this door only. REM is hard-wired to remaining doors and controls all locking functions of these doors, including liftgate. RKE transmitters us a rolling code or Transmitter Identification Code (TIC). Power door locks and RKE systems consist of door lock switches and remote transmitters that communicate with network modules through SCP communication network to control door lock actuators located in front doors, sliding doors and liftgate. Power door locks can be operated from door lock knobs or door lock switches on armrest of each front door. Power door locks can also be operated from outside of vehicle from key cylinder switches in liftgate and front doors, keyless entry keypad or by remote transmitter signal to RKE module (if equipped). Remote transmitters can lock or unlock all doors, including liftgate, open and close power sliding doors or activate a panic alarm in an emergency.

Transmitters vary with sliding door applications for manual rear sliding doors, passenger's side rear power sliding door with driver's side manual sliding rear door, or with dual rear power sliding doors. Power sliding doors can be operated by manually opening or closing until power operation takes over after 3-6 inches of travel, by using overhead console power sliding door switch, or by pressing remote transmitter button twice for desired power sliding door operation.

Smart lock system is designed to keep driver from locking ignition keys inside vehicle. FEM unlocks door, if driver locks doors while ignition key is in LOCK position, and door is open. Doors will then lock and unlock. Autolock system is designed to lock all doors once vehicle begins to move. Four conditions must be met for autolock system to function: all doors must be closed, ignition switch in RUN position, gearshift selector is out of Park, and vehicle speed is more than 5 MPH.
