Test K: AUTOLOCK Malfunction

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located beneath instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform Front Electronic Module (FEM) self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any FEM DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See FRONT ELECTRONIC MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Using NGS tester, monitor FEM PID for D_DOOR. Close all doors. If FEM PID agrees with driver's door position, go to next step. If FEM PID does not agree with driver's door position, inspect driver's door ajar switch circuits for opens or shorts. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Using NGS tester, monitor FEM PID P_DOOR. Close all doors. If FEM PID agrees with passenger's door position, go to next step. If FEM PID does not agree with passenger's door position, inspect driver's door ajar switch circuits for opens or shorts. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  4. Using NGS tester, monitor Rear Electronic Module (REM) PID LRDR_SW. Close all doors. If REM PID LRDR_SW agrees with driver's sliding door position, go to next step. If REM PID LRDR_SW does not agree with driver's sliding door position, inspect driver's door ajar switch circuits for opens or shorts. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  5. Using NGS tester, monitor REM PID RRDR_SW. Close all doors. If REM PID RRDR_SW agrees with passenger's sliding door position, go to next step. If REM PID RRDR_SW does not agree with passenger's sliding door position, inspect passenger's door ajar switch circuits for opens or shorts. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  6. Using NGS tester, monitor REM PID DECKLID. Close all doors. If REM PID DECKLID agrees with liftgate position, go to next step. If REM PID DECKLID does not agree with liftgate position, inspect liftgate ajar switch circuits for opens or shorts. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  7. Using NGS tester, monitor instrument cluster PIDs IGN_A, IGN_O/U, IGN_R and IGN_S, while cycling ignition switch through each position. If instrument cluster PIDs agree with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If instrument cluster PIDs does not agree with ignition switch positions, check ignition switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - WINDSTAR article.
  8. Disconnect all FEM harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all FEM harness connectors. Operate system to verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace FEM. Clear DTCs and repeat FEM self-test. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat FEM self-test.
