Description & Operation

Vehicle may be equipped with driver's and passenger's power sliding doors. Each power sliding door has its own control module and operates independently. Both Left Power Sliding Door Module (LPSDM) and Right Power Sliding Door Module (RPSDM) have specific outputs to control power sliding door operation. Main switch for each power sliding door is overhead console on/off switch. For power assist functions to operate, overhead console on/off switch must be in ON position. Power sliding doors are designed to open and close using overhead console open/close switch, "B" pillar switch or using Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. Power sliding doors must be unlocked before power assisted operation of sliding doors will occur, except when using RKE transmitters. Fuel filler door must be closed to allow left power sliding door operation. Rear Electronic Module (REM) signal inputs and control switches are specific for LPSDM and RPSDM. Overhead console on/off switch input, REM Park input, REM vehicle speed input and fused battery logic circuit. Power sliding door system components and their operation is as follows:

  1. Power Sliding Door Clutch

    Power sliding door clutch separates motor assembly motor from cable spool. This allows for manual opening and closing of power sliding doors without driving motor.
  2. Power Sliding Door Motor

    Power sliding door motor is a reversible motor. Upon valid activation, power sliding door module supplies power and ground to motor circuits depending on position and direction, power sliding door needs to be moved.
  3. "B" Pillar Open/Close Switch

    Pressing "B" pillar open/close switch sends a momentary ground signal to power sliding door module. Upon receiving input, power sliding door module checks overhead console on/off switch position. If overhead console on/off switch is in ON position, power sliding door module sends power to power sliding door motor. If overhead console on/off switch is in OFF position, power will not be supplied from power sliding door module.
  4. Latch Release Actuator

    Power sliding door must be unlocked to open. Power is supplied to release actuator by Left Power Sliding Door Module (LPSDM) or Right Power Sliding Door Module (RPSDM) when a valid open command is received. Latch release actuator unlatches related power sliding door, similar to manual sliding door operation from door handle. Power sliding door module is unable to detect if power sliding door is locked or unlocked. If activated while power sliding door is locked, latch release actuator will operate, but will not open until door is unlocked.
  5. Overhead Console On/Off Switch

    Overhead console on/off switch supplies a ground signal when in ON position to enable "B" pillar open/close switch activation and power assist activation of power sliding door. Both functions are disabled when overhead console on/off switch is in OFF position. Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) operations are not affected by overhead console on/off switch position.
  6. Overhead Console Open/Close Switch

    Pressing overhead console open/close switch supplies a momentary ground signal to Left Power Sliding Door Module (LPSDM) or Right Power Sliding Door Module (RPSDM). If conditions are correct, LPSDM/RPSDM will engage power assist operation to power-open or power-close power sliding door. Overhead console on/off switch does not affect the overhead console open/close switch.
  7. Position Sensor

    Position sensor is located on drive assembly actuator for power sliding doors. Position sensor is used by Left Power Sliding Door Module (LPSDM) or Right Power Sliding Door Module (RPSDM) to record position of related power sliding door.
  8. Power Sliding Door Latch Switch

    Power sliding door latch switch is located on rear power sliding door latch and identifies latch switch position by supplying a ground signal to Left Power Sliding Door Module (LPSDM) or Right Power Sliding Door Module (RPSDM) for open and lose operations. Power sliding door latch switch circuit is connected through sliding door contacts.
