Description & Operation
Power door locks and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) systems are divided into front and rear zones, and are controlled by several modules working together via module communications network, referred to as Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP). Power door locks and RKE systems consist of door lock switches and remote transmitters that communicate with network modules via SCP to control door lock actuators located in front doors, sliding doors and liftgate. Power door locks can be operated from door lock knobs or door lock switches in armrest of each front door. Locks can also be operated from outside of vehicle from key cylinder switches in liftgate and front doors, or by remote transmitter signal to RKE module (if equipped). Remote transmitters can lock or unlock all doors, open and close Power Sliding Doors (PSD) or activate a panic alarm in an emergency. Transmitters vary with sliding door applications for manual rear sliding doors, passenger-side rear PSD with driver-side manual sliding rear door, or with dual rear PSDs. PSDs can be operated by manually opening or closing a PSD until power operation takes over after 3-6 inches of travel, by using overhead console open/close switch, or by pressing remote transmitter button twice for desired PSD operation.
The following are descriptions of related modules of the SCP, and other system features available:
- Child Proof Rear Door Lock Feature
All vehicles are equipped with child proof rear door lock feature. When this feature is set, rear doors can only be opened from outside door handles. Child proof door lock latches are located at leading edge of each rear door. - Front Electronic Module (FEM)
FEM controls power door lock functions for driver's door only. Receives signals from RKE module and communicates with Rear Electronic Module (REM). - Rear Electronic Module (REM)
REM controls rear portion of vehicle, including all other locking features for passenger's door, sliding doors, and liftgate. When Power Sliding Door (PSD) operation is requested, REM determines if necessary preconditions are met, and signals the appropriate PSD module, to operate PSD's (if equipped). - Left Power Sliding Door Module (LPSDM)
Receives signals from REM. Controls operations of left (driver-side) power sliding door only (if equipped). - Right Power Sliding Door Module (RPSDM)
Receives signals from REM. Controls operations of right (passenger-side) power sliding door only (if equipped). - Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Module
RKE module processes signals from remote transmitters and outputs messages via SCP to Front Electronic Module (FEM) and REM. RKE module signals for Power Sliding Door (PSD) operation are sent to REM, then to appropriate PSD module. RKE module is also referred to on scan tool as RKE (DDM). - Switched System Power (SSP) Feature
SSP feature removes power from relays for interior lighting, exterior lighting and power door lock systems. After 30 minutes or more, with all accessories and equipment off, SSP feature removes power to the necessary relays, conserving battery energy. A fault in SSP feature could cause power door lock functions to be inoperative. - Transmitter Identification Codes (TIC)
RKE module can be programmed to receive up to 4 different TICs, from up to 4 different transmitters. RKE module and transmitters use a rolling code to prevent codes from being captured by a code grabber.
