Test D: Auto Dimming Feature Malfunction
NOTE:
Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
- Ensure parking brake is applied. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Place gear selector in Reverse. If reverse lights operate, go to next step. If reverse lights do not operate, repair reverse light as necessary. See back-up lights circuits under EXTERIOR LIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect dimming mirror 7-pin harness connector C911. Dimming mirror harness connector C911 is located on front center of roof. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and dimming mirror harness connector C911 terminal No. 1 (Violet/Orange wire). See Fig 1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open circuit in Violet/Orange wire between dimming mirror unit and Central Junction Box (CJB). CJB is located under left side of dash panel. See Figure. After repair, test system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and dimming mirror harness connector C911 terminal No. 2 (Black wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Black wire between dimming mirror unit and ground point G200. Ground point G200 is located under left side rocker panel. See Figure. After repair, test system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ensure parking brake is applied. Place gear selector in Reverse. Measure voltage between ground and dimming mirror harness connector C911 terminal No. 3 (Black/Pink wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace dimming mirror. See DIMMING MIRROR ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open circuit in Black/Pink wire between Digital Transmission Range (DTR) sensor and dimming mirror unit. After repair, clear DTC and test system for normal operation.
