Preliminary Inspection

WARNING: Disable air bag system before working around steering column or removing any air bag system component. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

CAUTION: Keep driver's window rolled down during testing to avoid being locked out of vehicle.

Verify customer concern by operating Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system. Before performing any testing, perform a visual inspection. Check for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Check Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse No. 16 (15-amp). BJB is located in left front of engine compartment, on top of wheelwell. Check Central Junction Box (CJB) fuses No. 3 (15-amp), No. 4 (15-amp) and No. 5 (20-amp). CJB is located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure. Check connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Check for damaged wiring harness or switches. Check for damaged power door lock actuator. Check for low remote transmitter battery charge or damaged transmitter. Check RKE module. RKE module is located behind left quarter trim panel ("B" pillar). Repair as necessary.
