Test A: No Communication With Remote Anti-Theft Personality Module

NOTE: Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module is located in luggage compartment, behind right trim panel. See Figure. For location of RAP module connectors C404 and C405, see Fig 1 and Fig 2 .
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check condition of central junction box ROOM fuse (10-amp) and MIRROR/RADIO fuse (5-amp). Central junction box is located under left side of instrument panel. If fuses are okay, reinstall fuses and go to step  4. If ROOM fuse is blown, go to next step. If MIRROR/RADIO fuse is blown, go to step  3.
  2. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect RAP module 22-pin harness connector C404. Replace central junction box ROOM fuse (10-amp). Check condition of replaced ROOM fuse. If fuse is okay, replace RAP module. See REMOTE ANTI-THEFT PERSONALITY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in Blue/Red wire between central junction box ROOM fuse and RAP module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  3. Disconnect RAP module 26-pin harness connector C405. Replace central junction box MIRROR/RADIO fuse (5-amp). Turn ignition on. Check condition of replaced fuse. If fuse is okay, replace RAP module. See REMOTE ANTI-THEFT PERSONALITY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in Blue/Black wire between central junction box and RAP module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  4. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect RAP module 22-pin harness connector C404. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and RAP module 22-pin harness connector C404 terminal No. 14 (Black wire). See Fig 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire between RAP module and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  5. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and RAP module 22-pin harness connector C404 terminal No. 12 (Blue/Red wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Blue/Red wire between central junction box and RAP module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  6. Disconnect RAP module 26-pin harness connector C405. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and RAP module 26-pin harness connector C405 terminal No. 25 (Blue/Black wire). See Fig 2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair module communication concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - ESCORT, ZX2 article. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Blue/Black wire between central junction box and RAP module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
