Rear Wheel Speed Sensor

All Vehicles 

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Vehicles With 3-Channel ABS 

    NOTE: Clean off dirt and foreign material that may have collected around the rear wheel speed sensor before removal.

  3. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor.
    1. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
    2. Remove the bolt.
    3. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor.
  4. NOTE: Thoroughly clean the mounting surface.
    NOTE: Inspect the wheel speed sensor O-ring for damage and lightly lubricate the O-ring with rear axle lubricant.

  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  6. Vehicles With 4-Channel ABS 

  7. Remove the parking brake shoes. For additional information, refer to DISC article in Brakes .
  8. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor harness and disconnect it from the parking brake cable conduit.

  9. Remove the bolt and remove the rear wheel speed sensor.

  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    NOTE: For vehicles with 3-channel ABS, verify that the wheel speed sensor is seated correctly in the rear differential housing by attempting to twist or rotate it. A correctly seated wheel speed sensor should not twist or rotate.
    • Apple electrical grease to the inside of the connector where the hard-shell and base join before connecting the wheel speed sensor harness.
