Section 358 (Engine - 2.0L SPI): Installation: Engine: Installation

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device and remove the engine from the stand.
  2. Reassemble the engine to the transaxle.
    • If equipped with an automatic transaxle, refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
    • If equipped with a manual transaxle, refer to MANUAL TRANSAXLE-TRANSMISSION .
  3. Lower the engine and transaxle assembly into the engine compartment.
  4. Install the RH engine support insulator through bolt.

  5. Remove the universal lifting eye from the transaxle, if necessary.
  6. Install the four motor mount nuts.

  7. Install Engine Support Bar and remove the lifting device.
  8. Raise and support the vehicle.

  9. Install the transaxle mounts and transaxle support crossmember.
  10. Remove the Engine Lifting Bracket from the cylinder head.

  11. Route the generator and starter motor wiring harness behind the engine.
  12. Connect the generator electrical connectors.
    1. Connect the two generator electrical connectors.
    2. Connect the battery positive cable.
    3. Install the nut and washer.

  13. Install the radiator assembly. For additional information, refer to RADIATOR .
  14. Install the upper radiator hose.

  15. Install the heater hose at the bulkhead.

  16. Install the heater hose at the water outlet connection.

  17. Raise and support the vehicle.
  18. Install the lower radiator hose and clamp.

  19. Install the A/C compressor (19703) and manifold lines.

  20. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  21. Connect the oil pressure switch electrical connector.

  22. Connect the starter motor S-terminal wire and B terminal cable and nut. Install the protective cover.

  23. Install the front wheel driveshafts and joints. For additional information, refer to AXLE SHAFTS - FRONT .
  24. Position the three way catalytic converter (TWC) (5E212) and install a new exhaust converter outlet gasket between the three way catalytic converter and the muffler inlet pipe and resonator (5A289).
  25. Install the bolts and nuts.

  26. Install the bolts.

  27. Install the crossmember.

  28. Install the RH splash shield.

  29. Install the LH splash shields.
    1. Install the LH splash shields.
    2. Install the six bolts.

  30. Install the front wheel and tire assemblies and tighten the nuts in the sequence shown.

  31. Lower the vehicle.
  32. Connect the (A) power steering reservoir pump hose and the (B) power steering pressure hose (3A719).

  33. Install the automatic tensioner, the accessory drive belt and if vehicle is equipped with A/C, the accessory drive belt idler. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING .
  34. Connect the A/C line at the suction accumulator/drier and the condenser. For additional information, refer to COMPRESSOR .
  35. Install the A/C line bracket bolts.

  36. Connect the transaxle cooler lines to the transaxle.

  37. Install one starter motor bolt.

  38. Install the nuts retaining the exhaust manifold to the TWC.

  39. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.

  40. Connect the fuel supply line to the fuel injection supply manifold.

  41. Install the power steering pressure hose and brackets.

  42. Install the ground strap to the generator bracket.

  43. Connect the engine cooling fan electrical connector.

  46. Connect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.

  47. Connect the (A) transmission range sensor electrical connector, the (B) transaxle solenoid electrical connector, and the (C) turbine speed sensor electrical connector.

  48. Install the EGR backpressure transducer and connect the electrical connector and the two pressure hoses.

  49. Install the (A) constant control relay module (CCRM) and bracket and reconnect the (B) CCRM electrical connector.

  50. Connect the two main engine/fuel charging wiring electrical connectors.

  51. Install the (A) shift cable and (B) clip.

  52. Install the (1) speed control cable and the (2) accelerator cable to the throttle control lever.

  53. Install the vacuum tree and connect the two vacuum lines.

  54. Connect the vacuum hoses to the (1) fuel pressure regulator and the (2) intake manifold.

  55. Connect the vacuum lines to the (1) exhaust recirculation valve, the (2) positive crankcase ventilation valve, and the (3) idle air control valve.

  56. Install the air cleaner outlet tube.
  57. Install the battery tray and the battery.
  58. Refill the engine coolant system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  59. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
  60. Install the hood.
  61. Charge the air conditioning system. For additional information, refer to COMPRESSOR .
  62. Start engine and inspect for leaks.
