Engine Front Cover: Removal

- Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).
- Remove both of the valve covers. Refer to VALVE COVER - LH and VALVE COVER - RH .
- Remove the radiator (8005). Refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Remove the water pump (8501). Refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the top bolts and the lower bolt and position the power steering pump (3A674) aside.
- Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil.
- Remove the four front oil pan bolts.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the crankshaft front seal (6700). Refer to Crankshaft Front Oil Seal .
- Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connection.
- Remove the (A) bolt and the (B) belt idler pulley (8678).
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the engine front cover (6019) from the front cover to cylinder block dowel (6C002).
- Remove the engine front cover gasket (6020) and clean and inspect the mating surfaces.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
