Sun And Shell Assembly - Disassembly: Disassembly
- Remove the front sun shell.
- Remove the No. 11 needle bearing.
- Remove the intermediate clutch hub.
- Remove the No. 10 thrust bearing.
- Remove the overdrive drum.
- Disassemble the low one-way clutch assembly.
- Remove the lower cap.
- Remove the low one-way clutch outer race.
- Remove the low one-way clutch assembly.
- Remove the upper cap.
- Assemble the low one-way clutch.
- The lower cap lip must face up.
- The low one-way clutch outer race groove must face up.
- The low one-way clutch shoulder must face up.
- The upper cap lip must face down.
- Install the low one-way clutches as an assembly with the groove facing up.
- The groove in the one way clutch outer race must face up.
- The one way clutch outer race must rotate counterclockwise.
- Remove the No. 6 thrust washer.
- Remove the forward clutch assembly.
- Remove the direct one-way clutch and the No. 7 thrust washer.
- Using the special tool remove the intermediate and direct clutch hub O-ring seals.
- Disassemble, clean and inspect the direct one-way clutch, inner and outer races.
- Assemble the one-way clutch.
- The outer race must rotate clockwise and lockup and hold when rotated counterclockwise.
- Inspect the direct one-way clutch.
- The circular depressions on the roller pockets of the nylon cage should face up.
- The reaction ear in the cage must match the hook in the inner race cam.
NOTE:
The low one-way clutch assembly must be assembled in a specific order.
CAUTION:
The outer race must rotate counterclockwise. Make sure end caps are fully seated.
CAUTION:
Pry evenly and do not locate screwdriver ends on or near forward clutch check ball to prevent component damage.
CAUTION:
The circular depressions on the top of the nylon cage must be visible when installed on the inner race or damage to the direct one-way clutch may result.
NOTE:
Outer race must rotate clockwise.
