Cylinder Head LH: Removal

CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.
  1. Remove the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD .
  2. Remove the LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER-LH .
  3. Remove the LH exhaust manifold. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD-LH .
  4. Remove the generator and bracket. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR .
  5. Remove the idler pulley.

  6. Unclip the A/C wiring harness from the generator bracket brace.

  7. Remove the generator bracket and the bracket brace as an assembly.

    CAUTION: If the components are to be reinstalled, they must be installed in the same position. Mark the components for location.
  8. Remove the bolts and the rocker arms.

  9. Remove the push rods.

  10. Remove the exhaust manifold lower studs.

  11. NOTE: Record the location of long and short bolts for installation.

  12. Remove and discard the bolts.
  13. Remove the cylinder head and the cylinder head gasket.
