Removal and Installation

CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil.

  3. Remove the oil filter.

  4. Remove the oil filter housing bolts.

  5. Remove the following:
    1. The oil pump drive gear.
    2. The oil pump driven gear.
    3. The oil pump O-ring seal. Discard the O-ring seal.
    4. The oil pump cover.

  6. Clean and inspect the components. Install new components if necessary.
  7. Inspect the face of the oil pump for flatness.

  8. NOTE: Lubricate parts with clean engine oil before assembly.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
