Removal and Installation

CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.
  1. Remove the cowl. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
  2. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube.

  3. Disconnect the brake booster and fuel vapor return hoses.

  4. Remove the nuts, then position the engine vacuum regulator (EVR) aside.

  5. Remove the ignition coil. For additional information, refer to IGNITION COIL .
  6. Remove the spark plug wire retainers, then position the spark plug wires aside.

  7. NOTE: Do not discard the gasket. The gasket may be reused if it is not damaged.
  8. Remove the RH valve cover.
    1. Remove the stud bolts.
    2. Remove the bolts.
    3. Remove the valve cover.

  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Install a new valve cover gasket as necessary.
