Catalytic Converter: Removal

    CAUTION: When repairing the exhaust system or removing exhaust components, disconnect the heated oxygen sensors at the wiring harness to prevent damage to the sensors and harness.
    1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle; refer to JACKING & HOISTING .
  2. CAUTION: When repairing the exhaust system or removing exhaust components, disconnect the heated oxygen sensors at the wiring harness to prevent damage to the sensors and harness.
    1. Disconnect the downstream catalyst monitor sensor (CMS) electrical connector.
  3. Disconnect the converter from the exhaust manifold.
    • Remove the nuts.
    • Discard the gasket.

  4. Disconnect the converter from the muffler inlet pipe.
    • Remove the nuts.
    • Discard the gasket.

  5. Remove the crossmember.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    2. Remove the crossmember.

  6. Remove the three way catalyst.
    1. Remove the bracket bolts.
    2. Remove the three way catalyst.
