Steering Column - SVT: Disassembly

    Right-hand drive vehicles 

  1. Using a suitable electric hand drill and stud extractor remove the ignition lock shield upper retaining bolt.

  2. Using a suitable electric hand drill and stud extractor remove the ignition lock shield.

  3. All Vehicles 

  4. Disconnect the speed control electrical connector (if equipped).

  5. Remove the steering wheel.

  6. Remove the spacing collar.

  7. CAUTION: Make sure the clockspring is not allowed to rotate. Secure in the central position with a piece of suitable tape.
  8. Remove the clockspring.
    • Using a thin bladed screwdriver, release the two retaining clips.

  9. Remove the steering column multifunction switches.
    1. Depress the retaining tangs.
    2. Lift the switches upwards.

  10. Remove the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver.

  11. Remove the ignition switch.
    • Release the locking tangs.

  12. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.
    1. Insert and turn the ignition key to position I.
    2. Using a thin bladed screwdriver depress the detent.

  14. Fully extend the steering column.
    1. Release the locking lever.
    2. Extend the steering column.

  15. NOTE: The two halves of the steering column must be marked before separating to aid installation.

  16. Mark the two halves of the steering column.

  18. Remove the steering column bolt.

  19. Separate the two halves of the steering column.

  21. Remove the steering wheel rotation sensor clamp.
    1. Remove the retaining screws.
    2. Depress the locking tangs.

  22. Remove the steering wheel rotation sensor retaining screws.
