Driver Air Bag Module: Installation

  1. Connect the horn switch electrical connector.
  2. Make sure the spring clip is behind all the holders on the driver air bag module.

  3. NOTE: The 4 driver air bag module springs and 4 steering wheel seats can be seen in the exploded view graphic.
  4. Align the 4 driver air bag module springs to the steering wheel seats.
    • At the top, the springs will align into the cups.

      At the bottom, the springs will align around the pins.

  5. With the driver air bag module springs aligned to the steering wheel seats, push in on the driver air bag module, seating the spring clips behind the steering wheel tabs.
    • Make sure the spring clips are securely fastened behind the tabs on the steering wheel.

  6. Slide the electrical connector on the wire shield retainer.
  7. Align the steering wheel back cover to the steering wheel and install the 3 screws.
    • Make sure that the steering wheel back cover is seated all the way around in the steering wheel mating groove.

  8. Install the steering wheel to the vehicle. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
  9. Repower the system. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
