Oil Pan: Removal

CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
  3. Remove the bolts and engine roll restrictor.
  4. Remove the bolt and ground strap from the RH cylinder head.
  5. Remove the 2 nuts and position the heat shield aside.
  6. Remove the 2 dual converter Y-pipe to LH exhaust manifold nuts.
  7. Remove the 2 dual converter Y-pipe to RH exhaust manifold bolts and position the Y-pipe aside.
  8. Remove the 2 bolts and position the starter aside.
  9. Remove the bolt and the engine inspection plate.
  10. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.
    • Install the drain plug when finished.
      • Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).
  11. Remove the 16 bolts and the oil pan.
    • Remove and discard the gasket.
  12. Using metal surface cleaner, clean the oil pan sealing surfaces.
