Cylinder Head: Assembly

    NOTE: Do not use metal scrapers or other tools to clean the cylinder head.
  1. Use a plastic scraper and metal surface prep to clean the cylinder head.
  2. Lubricate the camshaft journals with clean engine oil.

  4. Install the camshaft and the camshaft bearing caps.
    • Lubricate with clean engine oil and position the camshaft bearing caps.
    • Install the bolts loosely.

  6. Tighten the camshaft bearing caps bolts in the sequence shown in illustration.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

    NOTE: Lubricate the valve stems with clean engine oil.
  8. Install the valves in the cylinder head.

    NOTE: Lubricate the valve stems seals with clean engine oil.
  10. Using the Valve Stem Oil Seal Installer and Valve Spring Compressor, install the valve stem seals.

  12. Install the valve springs and the valve spring retainers onto the valves.

  14. Install the Valve Spring Compressor Spacer between the valve spring coils to prevent valve stem seal damage.

  16. Using the Valve Spring Compressor, compress the valve springs and install the valve spring retainer keys.

  18. Remove the Valve Spring Compressor Spacer.
