Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR
NOTE: The following step uses a test light to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only the test light recommended in the Special Tools table at the beginning of this section. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Flex Probe Kit for the test light probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test light probe directly on any connector.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Inoperative Right Hand (RH) Exterior Mirror or Left Hand (LH) Exterior Mirror.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Select the inoperative mirror on the exterior mirror control switch.
    5. For inoperative Left Hand (LH) mirror, while holding the exterior mirror control switch in the up position, monitor:

      • Did the test light illuminate?
      • Yes:  CHECK the inoperative exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR MOTOR .
      • No:  For vehicles with base mirrors, GO to step 2 .

For vehicles with heated mirrors, GO to step  3 .

  2. CHECK THE BASE EXTERIOR MIRROR COMMON CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C535A.
    3. For inoperative Left Hand (LH) mirror, measure:

      • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
      • Yes:  INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch (integral to the master window control switch). REFER to WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH .
      • No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  3. CHECK THE HEATED EXTERIOR MIRROR COMMON CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch.
