Pinpoint Test
NOTE:
When taking measurements at Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) harness connectors, do not insert the electrical probes into the female connector pins. Inserting the probes into connector pins can cause intermittent or open electrical connections after reassembly resulting in Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and system failure. Touching the tip of these connector pins is recommended instead.
- CHECK THE Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) FOR Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
- Using a scan tool, perform Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) Self-Test.
- Was Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2729 or B2730 retrieved in the self-test?
- Yes: For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2729, REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE AJ . For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2730, REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE AK .
- No: GO to 2 on page 2.
- Using a scan tool, perform Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) Self-Test.
- MONITOR THE Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) Thermo-Electric Device (TED) TEMPERATURE Parameter Identifications (PIDs)
- Using a scan tool, view Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) Temperature (PCSHTMP)
- Passenger Back Thermo-Electric Device (TED) Temperature (PBKTMP)
- Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) Temperature (CSHTEMP)
- Seat Back Thermo-Electric Device (TED) Temperature (BK_TEMP)
- Monitor the Thermo-Electric Device (TED) temperature Parameter Identifications (PIDs) with the climate controlled seats OFF. Compare the Parameter Identification (PID) values of the driver seat to those of the front passenger seat. This can help identify if there is a concern with the driver seat cushion or backrest Parameter Identification (PID) readings.
- Are both driver seat Thermo-Electric Device (TED) temperature Parameter Identification (PID) values within 10 C (18 F) of the ambient temperature?
- Yes: GO to 3 on page 2.
- No:
If the driver seat cushion Parameter Identification (PID) value varies 10 C (18 F) or more from ambient temperature, GO to 16
on page 12.
If the driver seat backrest Parameter Identification (PID) value varies 10 C (18 F) or more from ambient temperature, GO to 31 on page 26.
NOTE: Make sure the temperature of the climate controlled seats has stabilized before monitoring the Parameter Identifications (PIDs). Not allowing stabilization can cause incorrect readings and lead to incorrect identification of components that are not damaged. - Using a scan tool, view Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- CONFIRM THE FAULT IS IN THE SEAT CUSHION OR THE BACKREST
- Ignition OFF.
- Start the engine.
- Set the driver seat to high heat. Allow the seat to heat for at least 15 minutes while monitoring the Thermo-Electric Device (TED) temperature Parameter Identifications (PIDs) of the driver seat. If necessary, when the seat times out after 15 minutes, set the driver seat to high heat once again.
- Do the driver seat cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) and backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) Parameter Identifications (PIDs) vary more than 60 C (108 F) from each other?
- Yes:
If the driver seat cushion Parameter Identification (PID) value is 60 C (108 F) hotter than the backrest Parameter Identification (PID) value, GO to 5
on page 3.
If the driver seat backrest Parameter Identification (PID) value is 60 C (108 F) hotter than the cushion Parameter Identification (PID) value, GO to 20 on page 17.
- No: GO to 4 on page 3.
NOTE: A crushed seat cushion foam pad or climate controlled seat manifold may be the cause of the fault. It may be necessary to sit on the seat or place something of reasonable size and weight on the seat to recreate the fault. - CHECK THE Thermo-Electric Devices (TEDs) COOLING PERFORMANCE
- Check the Thermo-Electric Device (TED) cooling performance on the driver seat. REFER to THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) COOLING PERFORMANCE .
- Did the Thermo-Electric Devices (TEDs) pass the component test?
- Yes: The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) may have been set by extreme cabin temperatures or excessive sun load on the seat causing the system to enter recovery mode. Occupant size and weight characteristics can also be a factor. If a concern cannot be found or duplicated, RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
- No: CHECK the affected seat cushion or backrest for correct installation of the climate controlled seat components (Thermo-Electric Device (TED), manifold, air ducts and foam pad). CHECK for air flow restrictions (Thermo-Electric Device (TED) inlets and outlets, Thermo-Electric Device (TED)-to-manifold connections, filters and ducts) and REPAIR as needed. CHECK for an intermittent wiring fault. REPAIR as needed.
- Check the Thermo-Electric Device (TED) cooling performance on the driver seat. REFER to THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) COOLING PERFORMANCE .
- CHECK THE Thermo-Electric Device (TED) INSTALLATION AND FOR A CRUSHED SEAT CUSHION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
- Remove the seat. REFER to SEAT .
- Remove the seat cushion cover. REFER to SEAT CUSHION COVER .
- Inspect the seat cushion.
- Is the cushion blower obstructed?
- Is the blower filter restricted or plugged?
- Is the Thermo-Electric Device (TED) correctly installed?
- Is the seat cushion foam pad crushed or restricted?
- Is the climate controlled seat manifold crushed or restricted?
- Is the Thermo-Electric Device (TED) correctly installed and are the foam pad and manifold free of any damage?
- Yes: GO to 6 on page 3.
- No: Correctly INSTALL the cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) or INSTALL a new seat cushion foam pad and/or climate controlled seat manifold. GO to 36 on page 31.

- Position the driver seat in the vehicle and connect the seat-to-floor connectors.

- No: INSTALL a new backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT BACKREST THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 36 on page 31.
- CHECK FOR CORRECT Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Connect: Driver Seat Backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3034 (if previously disconnected).
- Connect: Driver Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3035 (if previously disconnected).
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM). REFER to DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLLED SEAT MODULE (DCSM) . GO to 36 on page 31.
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. GO to 36 on page 31.
- CHECK FOR Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
- Connect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
- Connect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265A, C3265B or C3265C (if previously disconnected).
- Connect: Driver Seat Backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3034 (if previously disconnected).
- Connect: Driver Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3035 (if previously disconnected).
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, clear the Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
- Using a scan tool, perform Restraints Control Module (RCM) self-test.
- Are any Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved during self-test?
- Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) for pinpoint test direction.
- No: The repair is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
