Pinpoint Test

NOTE: When taking measurements at Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) harness connectors, do not insert the electrical probes into the female connector pins. Inserting the probes into connector pins can cause intermittent or open electrical connections after reassembly resulting in Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and system failure. Touching the tip of these connector pins is recommended instead.
  1. CHECK THE Thermo-Electric Device (TED) BLOWER MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
      WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
    3. Disconnect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265C.
    4. Disconnect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040.
    5. Disconnect: Passenger Backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3039.
    6. Ignition ON.
    7. Measure:

      • Is any voltage present? 
      1. Yes:  REPAIR the affected circuit. GO to 5  on page 7.
      2. No:  GO to 2  on page 3.
  2. CHECK THE PASSENGER Thermo-Electric Device (TED) BLOWER MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:

    2. Measure:

      • Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 3  on page 4.
      2. No:  REPAIR the affected circuit. GO to 5  on page 7.
  3. CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE PASSENGER CUSHION AND BACKREST Thermo-Electric Device (TED) BLOWER MOTORS
      NOTE: Connect the ohmmeter with the positive lead to pin 2 and the negative lead to pin 4 when measuring. Ohmmeter leads incorrectly connected can result in false readings and lead to incorrect identification of components that are not damaged.

    1. Measure:
      • Are the resistances between 4,000 ohms and 10,000 ohms? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 4  on page 6.
      2. No:  If the resistance of the cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) was not between 4,000 ohms and 10,000 ohms, INSTALL a new cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT CUSHION THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 5  on page 7.

        If the resistance of the backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) was not between 4,000 ohms and 10,000 ohms, INSTALL a new backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT BACKREST THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 5  on page 7.

  4. CHECK FOR CORRECT Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect all Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connectors.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    4. Reconnect the Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    5. Connect: Passenger Backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3039.
    6. Connect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040.
    7. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
      • Is the concern still present? 
      1. Yes:  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM). REFER to DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLLED SEAT MODULE (DCSM) . GO to 5  on page 7.
      2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. GO to 5  on page 7.
  5. CHECK FOR Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
      WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Connect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
    3. Connect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265C (if previously disconnected).
    4. Connect: Passenger Backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3039 (if previously disconnected).
    5. Connect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040 (if previously disconnected).
    6. Ignition ON.
    7. Using a scan tool, clear the Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
    8. Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
    9. Using a scan tool, perform Restraints Control Module (RCM) self-test.
      • Are any Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved during self-test? 
      1. Yes:  REFER to DTC CHART: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) for pinpoint test direction.
      2. No:  The repair is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
