Pinpoint Test
- RETRIEVE THE Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Driver Seat Module (DSM)
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, perform Driver Seat Module (DSM) self-test.
- Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved?
- Yes:
If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1667 or B1668 is present with other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), DIAGNOSE the other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) first.
If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1667 or B1668 is present without other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), INSPECT the Left Hand (LH) exterior mirror motor for foreign material, damage or a binding condition. If no condition is found, GO to step 10 .
If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1669 or B1670 is present with other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), DIAGNOSE the other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) first.
If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1669 or B1670 is present without other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), INSPECT the Right Hand (RH) exterior mirror motor for foreign material, damage or a binding condition. If no condition is found, GO to step 12 .
For Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B1733, B1737, B1741 or B1745, GO to step 14 .
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2223, GO to step 17 .
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2224, GO to step 19 .
For Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B2312, B2316, B2320 or B2324, GO to step 21 .
For Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B2314, B2318, B2322 or B2326, GO to step 24 .
For all other Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC CHART: DRIVER SEAT MODULE (DSM) .
- No: GO to step 2 .
- CHECK OPERATION OF THE MIRRORS FROM THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH
- Operate the mirrors using the exterior mirror control switch.
- Does the Left Hand (LH) or Right Hand (RH) mirror operate using the exterior mirror control switch?
- Yes: If the Left Hand (LH) or Right Hand (RH) exterior mirror operates correctly in at least one direction, GO to step 9 .
- No: If both the Left Hand (LH) and Right Hand (RH) exterior mirrors are inoperative, GO to step 3 .
- Operate the mirrors using the exterior mirror control switch.
- CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCHNOTE: The following step uses a test light to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only the test light recommended in the Special Tools table at the beginning of this section. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Flex Probe Kit for the test light probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test light probe directly on any connector.
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- Select the Left Hand (LH) mirror on the exterior mirror control switch.
- Ignition ON.
- While selecting the right direction on the exterior mirror control switch, monitor:
- Did the light illuminate?
- Yes: GO to step 26 .
- No: GO to step 4 .
- CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH
- Measure:
- Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
- Yes: GO to step 5 .
- No: VERIFY that Body Control Module (BCM) fuse 32 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
- Measure:
- CHECK FOR GROUND TO THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 6 .
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE MIRROR SWITCH COMMON CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
- Is any voltage present?
- Yes: REPAIR the circuit.
- No: GO to step 7 .
- CHECK THE MIRROR SWITCH COMMON CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 8 .
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE MIRROR SWITCH COMMON CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Measure:

- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 26 .
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- Measure:
- CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR SWITCH CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- Measure:

- Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 26 .
- No: REPAIR the affected circuit.
- CHECK THE Left Hand (LH) EXTERIOR MIRROR FOR VOLTAGE WHILE COMMANDING THE Driver Seat Module (DSM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs)
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Left Hand (LH) Exterior Mirror.
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, view Driver Seat Module (DSM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- If only Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1667 is set, while toggling the Driver Seat Module (DSM) Parameter Identification (PID) Driver's Mirror Up (DR_UP) to On, measure:
- If only Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1668 is set, while toggling the Driver Seat Module (DSM) Parameter Identification (PID) Driver's Mirror Right (DR_RIGHT) to On, measure:
- If both Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B1667 and B1668 are set, while toggling the Driver Seat Module (DSM) Parameter Identification (PID) Driver's Mirror Down (DR_DOWN) to On, measure:
- Does the voltage momentarily change from 0 volts to greater than 11 volts when the active command is toggled ON?
- Yes: CHECK the Left Hand (LH) exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motors for open circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new Left Hand (LH) exterior mirror. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new Left Hand (LH) exterior mirror motor. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR MOTOR .
- No: GO to step 11 .
- CHECK THE Left Hand (LH) EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- If only Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1667 is set, measure:
- If only Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1668 is set, measure:
- If both Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B1667 and B1668 are set, measure:

- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 26 .
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE Right Hand (RH) EXTERIOR MIRROR FOR VOLTAGE WHILE COMMANDING THE Driver Seat Module (DSM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs)
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Right Hand (RH) Exterior Mirror.
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, view Driver Seat Module (DSM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- If only Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1669 is set, while toggling the Driver Seat Module (DSM) Parameter Identification (PID) Passenger's Mirror Up (PR_UP) to On, measure:
- If only Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1670 is set, while toggling the Driver Seat Module (DSM) Parameter Identification (PID) Passenger's Mirror Right (PR_RIGHT) to On, measure:
- If both Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B1669 and B1670 are set, while toggling the Driver Seat Module (DSM) Parameter Identification (PID) Passenger's Mirror Left (PR_LEFT) to On, measure:

If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR MOTOR .
- No: GO to step 13 .
- CHECK THE Right Hand (RH) EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- If only Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1669 is set, measure:
- If only Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1670 is set, measure:
- If both Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B1669 and B1670 are set, measure:
- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 26 .
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch.
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and perform Driver Seat Module (DSM) self-test.
- Did Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1733, B1737, B1741 or B1745 return?
- Yes: GO to step 15 .
- No: INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch (integral to the master window control switch). REFER to WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH .
- CHECK THE MIRROR CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
- Is any voltage present?
- Yes: REPAIR the circuit.
- No: GO to step 16 .
- CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR SWITCH CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 26 .
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE Left Hand (LH) EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Left Hand (LH) Exterior Mirror.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
- Are any voltages present?
- Yes: REPAIR the affected circuit.
- No: GO to step 18 .
- CHECK THE Left Hand (LH) EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 25 .
- No: REPAIR the affected circuit.
- CHECK THE Right Hand (RH) EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Right Hand (RH) Exterior Mirror.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
- Are any voltages present?
- Yes: REPAIR the affected circuit.
- No: GO to step 20 .
- CHECK THE Right Hand (RH) EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 25 .
- No: REPAIR the affected circuit.
- CHECK THE MIRROR POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- Disconnect: Right Hand (RH) Exterior Mirror.
- Disconnect: Left Hand (LH) Exterior Mirror.
- For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2312 or B2316, measure:
- For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2320 or B2324, measure:
- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 22 .
- No: REPAIR the affected circuit.
- CHECK THE MIRROR POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2312 or B2316, measure:
- For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2320 or B2324, measure:

- Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to step 23 .
- No: REPAIR the affected circuit.
- CHECK THE MIRROR POSITION SENSOR FEED AND RETURN FROM THE Driver Seat Module (DSM)
- Connect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- Ignition ON.
- For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2312 or B2316, measure:
- For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2320 or B2324, measure:
- Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
- Yes:
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2312 or B2316, CHECK the Right Hand (RH) exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motors for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins.
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2320 or B2324, CHECK the Left Hand (LH) exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motors for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins.
If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR MOTOR .
- No: GO to step 26 .
- CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- Disconnect: Right Hand (RH) Exterior Mirror.
- Disconnect: Left Hand (LH) Exterior Mirror.
- Ignition ON.
- For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2314 or B2318, measure:
- For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2322 or B2326, measure:
- Are any voltages present?
- Yes: REPAIR the affected circuit.
- No:
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2314 or B2318, CHECK the Right Hand (RH) exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motors for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins.
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2322 or B2326, CHECK the Left Hand (LH) exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motors for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins.
If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR MOTOR .
- CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect: Driver Seat Module (DSM) C341D.
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and perform Driver Seat Module (DSM) self-test.
- Did Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2223 or B2224 return?
- Yes: GO to step 26 .
- No: CHECK the Left Hand (LH) or Right Hand (RH) exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motors for shorted circuits or damaged and pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to EXTERIOR MIRROR MOTOR .
- CHECK THE Driver Seat Module (DSM) FOR CORRECT OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all Driver Seat Module (DSM) connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the Driver Seat Module (DSM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Driver Seat Module (DSM). REFER to DRIVER SEAT MODULE (DSM) .
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
