Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK FOR PCM DTCs 
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
    2. No: GO to .
  2. CHECK FOR SCCM DTCs 
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the SCCM self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) .
    2. No: GO to .
  3. CHECK THE C-CM DTCs 
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the C-CM  self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC Chart: Cruise Control Module (C-CM) .
    2. No: GO to .
  4. CHECK FOR LOST COMMUNICATION DTCs 
    1. Using a scan tool, clear continuous DTCs  from all modules.
    2. Ignition OFF.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Wait at least 10 seconds.
    5. Retrieve all continuous DTCs  from all modules.

    Are any lost communication DTCs set in the C-CM module? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC Chart: Cruise Control Module (C-CM) .
    2. No: GO to .
  5. CHECK FOR ABS MODULE DTCs 
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the ABS module self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE .
    2. No: GO to .
  6. CHECK FOR BCM DTCs 
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM module self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .
    2. No: GO to .
  7. CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH (BOO1) AND CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATOR SWITCH (BOO2) PIDs 
    1. Using a scan tool, view Powertrain - Cruise Control PIDs  .
    2. Monitor the powertrain PIDs  BOO1 (stoplamp switch) and BOO2 (cruise control deactivator switch) while applying and releasing the brake pedal.

    Do the PID values agree with the brake pedal position? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REFER to Diagnostic Routine B: P0504, P0572, P0573, or P1703 .
  8. CHECK THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH
    1. Using a scan tool, view Powertrain - Cruise Control PIDs  .
    2. Press each cruise control switch while monitoring the cruise control switch PID (SCCS).

    Does the PID value agree with the switch position? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: If only one switch does not display the correct PID value, INSTALL a new LH steering wheel switch. REFER to STEERING WHEEL SWITCH .

      Otherwise, REFER to Diagnostic Routine C: The Cruise Control Switch Is Inoperative Or Does Not Operate Correctly .

  9. CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
    1. Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
    2. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    3. Reconnect all the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 2.0L GTDI , or POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 3.5L TI-VCT .
    2. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
