Differential Gear Assembly: Disassembly

All vehicles 

    NOTE: Front wheel drive (FWD) shown, all wheel drive (AWD) similar.
  1. Inspect the differential bearings for damage or excessive wear. Install new bearings if necessary.

    Front wheel drive (FWD) vehicles 

  3. Using the special tools, remove the differential carrier bearing from the differential assembly.

    All wheel drive (AWD) vehicles 

  5. Using the special tools, remove the differential carrier bearings from the differential assembly.

  7. Using the special tools, remove the differential carrier bearing from the differential assembly.

  9. Inspect the differential assembly and the ring gear for damage and replace if necessary.
