Maximum Detectable Object Locations

  1. NOTE: The object used in this system check can be fabricated using a 9 cm O.D. (3 in I.D.) plastic pipe 100 cm (39 in) in length (available as Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipe, or similar from a hardware or plumbing supply).
    NOTE: The following system check should be carried out with the vehicle on a level surface.
    NOTE: The parking aid system will default to on when the ignition key is cycled from off to on.
    NOTE: The scan tool may be used to monitor distance PIDs. The distance PIDs read between 0 and 255 cm (0 and 8 ft) on a correctly functioning system.

    Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, engine off.

  2. Set the parking brake on.
  3. Place the transmission in REVERSE (R).
  4. Verify that the parking aid system detects the specified object when placed in the five specified locations (P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5).
    • If the PAM  does not detect the object above, refer to PARKING AID  in the Diagnosis and Testing portion.
