Main Control Valve Body: Installation

  1. Install the special tool into the transmission case.

  3. Position the main control valve body, using the 2 special tools as a guide.

    NOTE: The main control valve body screws will be tightened in later steps.
  5. Loosely install 4 M6 x 45 mm (1.8 in) screws.

    NOTE: The main control valve body screws will be tightened in later steps.
  7. Loosely install 2 M6 x 35 mm (1.4 in) screws.
  8. Remove the special tools.

    NOTE: The main control valve body screws will be tightened in later steps.
  10. Loosely install the M6 x 30 mm (1.2 in) screw.

    NOTE: The main control valve body screws will be tightened in later steps.
  12. Loosely install the 16 M6 x 40 mm (1.6 in) main control valve body screws.

  14. Tighten the main control valve body screws in the sequence shown.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  15. Rotate the manual lever into the NEUTRAL position.

  17. Install the manual control valve detent lever spring.
    1. Position the manual control valve detent lever spring.

    Install the manual control valve detent lever spring screw.

    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  19. Install the low/reverse band servo piston and rod.

  21. Install the low/reverse band servo cover.
    1. Install the low/reverse band servo cover and gasket.
    2. Loosely install the low/reverse servo piston cover screws.

  23. Tighten the servo cover screws in the sequence shown.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).

  25. Connect the 6 solenoid electrical connectors.
    1. Connect SSA, SSB, SSC and SSD electrical connectors.
    2. Connect the TCC solenoid electrical connector.
    3. Connect the EPC solenoid electrical connector.

    CAUTION: Excessive pressure may break the locating pins.
  27. Install the main control valve body wire harness.
    • Align the retaining pins to the holes in the solenoid clamps and press in the main control valve body wire harness guide and protector.

    CAUTION: Lubricate fluid filter O-ring seals with clean automatic transmission fluid or they can be damaged.
  29. Lube and install new O-ring seals onto the transmission fluid filter.

  31. Install the transmission fluid filter.
    1. Position the transmission fluid filter on the main control valve body.

    Install the transmission fluid filter screw.

    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  33. Install the transmission fluid pan.
    1. Position a new transmission fluid pan gasket on the transmission fluid pan.
    2. Install and align the transmission fluid pan.

  35. Loosely install the transmission fluid pan screws.

  37. Tighten the transmission fluid pan screws in a crisscross sequence.
    • Tighten to 16 Nm (12 lb-ft).

  39. If equipped, position the servo heat shield over the servos and clip it to the pan rail.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  40. NOTE: Start with a minimum of 3.7 liters (4 quarts) clean automatic transmission fluid.
  41. Fill transmission with clean automatic transmission fluid to the correct fluid level.
