Power Steering Pump: Removal

NOTE: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of foreign material or failure of the power steering components may result.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Using a suitable suction device, siphon the power steering fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir.
  3. Remove the 7 pin-type retainers and the RH splash shield.

  4. Position the Stretchy Belt Remover on the power steering pump pulley belt as shown in illustration.

  5. NOTE: Feed the Stretchy Belt Remover onto the power steering pump pulley approximately 90 degrees.

  6. Turn the crankshaft clockwise and feed the Stretchy Belt Remover evenly on the power steering pump pulley as shown in illustration.
  7. Remove the power steering pump belt.
    • Fold the Stretchy Belt Remover under the inside of the power steering pump belt as shown in illustration.
    • In one quick motion, firmly pull the Stretchy Belt Remover out of the RH fender well, removing the power steering pump belt.

  8. Release the clamp and disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir-to-pump supply hose from the power steering pump.
    • Detach the supply hose retainer from the pressure line bracket.
  9. Remove the pressure line bracket-to-engine bolt.
  10. Remove the 3 power steering pump bolts.
  11. Holding the power steering pump with a punch inserted into a mounting bolt cavity, disconnect the pressure line fitting-to-power steering pump.
