Strut and Spring Assembly: Disassembly

NOTE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure may result in major service expense. New parts must be installed with the same part numbers or equivalent part, if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.
  1. NOTE: Compress the coil spring enough to relieve the tension on the strut assembly.

    General Equipment: Vise, Spring Compressor.

  2. NOTE: Note the position of each component before removal.
    NOTE: Do not use an impact wrench on the strut rod nut.

    Discard the specified component. Follow local disposal regulations.

  3. NOTE: During assembly, assemble the bearing plate to the strut so the arrow on the bearing plate points to the outboard side of the vehicle when the strut is installed.

    Remove the bearing plate.
