Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The wheel speed sensor uses the tone ring to generate a square wave signal proportional to wheel speed which is sent to the ABS module. The front wheel bearing, rear axle shafts, tone rings and wheel speed sensors must be undamaged and free from any contamination to produce a clean signal for use by the ABS module. Also, all 4 tires and wheels must be of the same manufacturer recommended size for the wheel speed sensor to generate an accurate wheel speed signal.
PPT B ABS MODULE DTC FAULT TRIGGER CONDITIONS
| DTC | Description | Fault Trigger Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| C0030:38 | Left Front Tone Wheel: Signal Frequency Incorrect | Sets when the ABS module detects damage to the wheel speed sensor tone ring. When vehicle speed is between 10 km/h (6 mph) and 80 km/h (49 mph) and there are no ABS or stability control systems active, the ABS module monitors the raw wheel speed sensor signal for a cyclically reoccurring gap or slope in the signal. This indicates a possible missing tooth in the tone ring. |
| C0033:38 | Right Front Tone Wheel: Signal Frequency Incorrect | Sets when the ABS module detects damage to the wheel speed sensor tone ring. |
| C0036:38 | Left Rear Tone Wheel: Signal Frequency Incorrect | Sets when the ABS module detects damage to the wheel speed sensor tone ring. |
| C0039:38 | Right Rear Tone Wheel: Signal Frequency Incorrect | Sets when the ABS module detects damage to the wheel speed sensor tone ring. |
| C0031:27 | Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Rate of Change Above Threshold | Sets when the ABS module detects a non-plausable wheel speed signal, one that does not match the others and exceeds pre-set parameters. The ABS module monitors for this condition as long as there is no undervoltage condition present. |
| C0034:27 | Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Rate of Change Above Threshold | Sets when the ABS module detects a non-plausable wheel speed signal, one that does not match the others and exceeds pre-set parameters. The ABS module monitors for this condition as long as there is no undervoltage condition present. |
| C0037:27 | Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Rate of Change Above Threshold | Sets when the ABS module detects a non-plausable wheel speed signal, one that does not match the others and exceeds pre-set parameters. The ABS module monitors for this condition as long as there is no undervoltage condition present. |
| C003A:27 | Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Rate of Change Above Threshold | Sets when the ABS module detects a non-plausable wheel speed signal, one that does not match the others and exceeds pre-set parameters. The ABS module monitors for this condition as long as there is no undervoltage condition present. |
| C0031:2F | Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Erratic | Sets when the ABS module detects an abnormal signal from the wheel speed sensor. After module initialization and when there is no undervoltage condition present, the ABS module sets this fault if the wheel speed signal is abnormal for a predetermined amount of time. |
| C0034:2F | Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Erratic | Sets when the ABS module detects an abnormal signal from the wheel speed sensor. After module initialization and when there is no undervoltage condition present, the ABS module sets this fault if the wheel speed signal is abnormal for a predetermined amount of time. |
| C0037:2F | Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Erratic | Sets when the ABS module detects an abnormal signal from the wheel speed sensor. After module initialization and when there is no undervoltage condition present, the ABS module sets this fault if the wheel speed signal is abnormal for a predetermined amount of time. |
| C003A:2F | Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Erratic | Sets when the ABS module detects an abnormal signal from the wheel speed sensor. After module initialization and when there is no undervoltage condition present, the ABS module sets this fault if the wheel speed signal is abnormal for a predetermined amount of time. |
| C0031:64 | Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Plausibility Failure | Sets when the ABS module detects a suspect wheel speed sensor signal does not match other sensor inputs. |
| C0034:64 | Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Plausibility Failure | Sets when the ABS module detects a suspect wheel speed sensor signal does not match other sensor inputs. |
| C0037:64 | Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Plausibility Failure | Sets when the ABS module detects a suspect wheel speed sensor signal does not match other sensor inputs. |
| C003A:64 | Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Plausibility Failure | Sets when the ABS module detects a suspect wheel speed sensor signal does not match other sensor inputs. |
| C1A95:2F | Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Erratic | Sets when the ABS module has 2 or more of the above wheel speed sensor signal DTCs at the same time. |
