Removal And Installation: Spring: Removal

NOTE:
Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.

- 1.
Remove the wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheels and Tires .
- 3.
Remove and discard the rear shock absorber lower bolt and nut and position the parking brake cable bracket and the rear shock absorber aside.Torque: 81 lb.ft (110 Nm)
- 4.NOTE: Tighten the U-bolt nuts with the weight of the vehicle resting on the wheels and tires.
Tighten the U-bolt nuts in the sequence shown.
Tighten the U-Bolt nuts evenly and make sure there is an equal amount of threads exposed on each U-Bolt. Remove the U-bolts and nuts.
Torque:
Stage 1: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
Stage 2: 37 lb.ft (50 Nm)
Stage 3: 55 lb.ft (75 Nm)
Stage 4: 74 lb.ft (100 Nm)
Stage 5: 92 lb.ft (125 Nm)
Stage 6: 111 lb.ft (150 Nm)
Stage 7: 129 lb.ft (175 Nm)

Lower the axle assembly approximately 5.9 in (150 mm) to gain clearance to remove the spring(s). Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
- 6.
With the help of an assistant, remove and discard the rear spring bolts and nuts and remove the spring.Torque:
1: 129 lb.ft (175 Nm)
2: 203 lb.ft (275 Nm)
