Symptom Chart Climate Control Systems

Symptom Chart - Climate Control Systems

NOTE: Some PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) may inhibit A/C operation. If any PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are retrieved, diagnose those first. Refer to the DTC Chart: PCM in Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts

Diagnostics in this service information assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. REFER to: Diagnostic Methods

Symptom Chart

Condition Possible Sources Actions
A module does not respond to the diagnostic scan tool Fuse
Wiring, terminals or connectors
REFER to: Communications Network
Insufficient Air Conditioning (A/C) cooling Improper refrigerant level CARRY OUT the refrigerant system tests. REFER to: Refrigerant System Tests  If OK, DIAGNOSE for a temperature door actuator not operating correctly.
Temperature door actuator GO to Pinpoint Test K
The A/C is always on - A/C mode always commanded on Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test J
The A/C is inoperative Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test I
The A/C pressure relief valve is discharging High system pressure
A/C pressure relief valve
Using the manifold gauge set, CHECK the A/C system pressure. If the system pressure is above the A/C pressure relief valve open pressure, REPAIR the system for a restriction.
CHECK the high side system pressure. If the pressure is below the A/C pressure relief valve open pressure, INSTALL a new A/C compressor. REFER to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor - 3.2L Duratorq-TDCi (148kW/200PS) - Puma  REFER to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor - 3.5L EcoBoost (235kW/320PS)  REFER to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor - 3.7L Duratec (199kW/270PS)
The air inlet door is inoperative Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test F
The front blower motor is inoperative Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test L
The front blower motor does not operate correctly Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test M
The rear blower motor is inoperative Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test O
The rear blower motor does not operate correctly Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test P
The electric booster heater is inoperative or does not operate correctly Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test A
The RHVAC system is inoperative or not operating correctly Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test Q
Incorrect or erratic direction of airflow from outlets Refer to the Pinpoint Test For front HVAC air flow concerns, GO to Pinpoint Test G
For RHVAC air flow concerns, GO to Pinpoint Test Q
Insufficient, erratic or no heat Refer to the Pinpoint Test For engine coolant/heater core related concerns, GO to Pinpoint Test H
For electric booster heater related concerns, GO to Pinpoint Test A
Reduced outlet airflow Plugged cabin air filter (if equipped) Inspect the cabin air filter (if equipped). REFER to: Cabin Air Filter  If OK, DIAGNOSE for low refrigerant charge, A/C always commanded on or blower motor not operating correctly.
Improper refrigerant level CARRY OUT the refrigerant system tests. REFER to: Refrigerant System Tests  If refrigerant charge is OK, GO to Pinpoint Test J
Blower motor GO to Pinpoint Test M
The temperature control is inoperative or does not operate correctly Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test K
Unable to duplicate the customer concern and no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present Refer to the Pinpoint Test GO to Pinpoint Test E
