Power Transfer Unit
- 1.
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. REFER to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- 2.
If equipped. Remove the underbody shield.
- 3.
Remove the rear driveshaft. REFER to: REAR DRIVESHAFT .
- 4.
- Loosen the clamp, remove the nuts and the CAC inlet tube.
- Loosen the clamp and disconnect the CAC outlet tube.
- 5.
Remove the catalytic converter. REFER to: CATALYTIC CONVERTER - 1.5L EcoBoost (118kW/160PS) - I4, CATALYTIC CONVERTER - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4 or CATALYTIC CONVERTER - 2.5L Duratec (125kW/170PS).
- 6.
Remove the PTU heat shield bolts and the heat shield.
- 7.
Remove the front halfshaft RH. REFER to: FRONT HALFSHAFT RH .
- 8.
Disconnect the PTU vent hose and position it aside.
- 9.
Remove the PTU drain plug.
- 10.
Remove the PTU support bracket and bolts.
- 11.
Remove and discard the upper PTU bolts.
- 12.
Remove and discard the lower PTU bolts.
- 13.
Remove the PTU.
