Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU): Removal

NOTE: The HCU and ABS module are serviced as an assembly.
  1. NOTE: The PMI process must begin with the current ABS module installed. If the current ABS module does not respond to the diagnostic scan tool, the tool may prompt for As-Built Data as part of the repair.

    Using a diagnostic scan tool, begin the PMI process for the ABS module following the on-screen instructions.

  2. Remove the LH and RH front fenders. Refer to: Fender .
  3. Remove the front bumper cover. Refer to: Front Bumper Cover .
  4. Remove the windshield washer reservoir. Refer to: Windshield Washer Reservoir .
    • Disconnect the hood ajar switch electrical connector.

    • Detach the hood latch release cable from the mounting bracket.

    • Detach latch cable harness retainers and disconnect the hood latch release cable eyelet from the hood latch.

  5. Remove the retainers and the chimney grills.

  6. Detach the wiring harness retainers and disconnect the cooling fan electrical connectors.

  7. Remove the nuts and the cooling fans.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  8. Disconnect the electrical connectors. Remove the nuts, bolts and the outlet duct cover.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  9. NOTE: If the fluid is spilled on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.
    NOTE: Make sure all openings are sealed.

    1. Disconnect the brake tube fittings.

      Torque: 159 lb.in (18 Nm)

    2. Detach the brake tube retainer.
    3. Disconnect the remaining brake tube fittings.

      Torque: 21 lb.ft (28 Nm)

  10. Remove the front undershield. Refer to: Front Undershield .
  11. NOTE: Make sure all openings are sealed.

    Disconnect the brake tube fittings and remove the brake tubes.

    Torque: 21 lb.ft (28 Nm)

  12. Disconnect the ABS module electrical connector.

  13. Remove the bolt.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  14. Discharge the power steering system pressure. Refer to: Power Steering System Pressure Discharge .
  15. Loosen the fitting and disconnect the hydraulic line.

    Torque: 19 lb.ft (26 Nm)

  16. Remove the HCU and ABS module assembly.
