Occupant Classification System (OCS) Sensor: Removal

NOTE: To prevent system failure, carry out the OCS reset when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new trim cover is installed or an OCS service kit is installed. Use a scan tool to carry out the OCS reset command.
NOTE: The cushion heater mat on a front outboard passenger seat is not serviced separately. If a new cushion heater mat is needed on the front passenger seat, install an OCS service kit equipped with a heater mat. Failure to follow this instruction may result in incorrect operation of the OCS.
NOTE: OCS components (seat cushion foam pad, bladder with OCSM) are calibrated to each other and are serviced as an assembly. The OCS components are not to be installed separately. If a new OCS, OCS component or seat cushion foam pad are needed, a new OCS service kit (seat cushion foam pad, bladder with OCSM must be installed as an assembly.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. NOTE: Before removing a power seat, raise it all the way up.

    Remove the front passenger seat. Refer to: Front Seat .

  2. NOTE: Follow the unique instruction or graphic for this step in installation.

    Remove the manual seat adjust handles.

    1. Remove the spring clip and the manual recline handle.
    2. Release the retainer tab, slide forward and remove the manual height adjust handle

  3. Remove the cushion side shield front and rear screws.

  4. Separate the cushion side shield.

    1. Detach the cushion side shield from the rear retainer.
    2. Slide forward, separate the cushion side shield and, if equipped with a manual seat track, remove the cushion side shield.

  5. If equipped with a power seat, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the cushion side shield.

  6. Remove the screws and the recliner cover.

  7. Detach the electrical connector pin-type retainers.

  8. If equipped with heated seats, disconnect the electrical connector.

    Bend the retaining tab away from the OCS sensor housing and slide the sensor off the bracket.

  11. Detach all the cushion cover J-clips.

  12. If equipped with an original equipment OCS, remove the cushion cover and foam pad.

    Remove the pin-type retainers.

  14. Remove the OCS.

    • Note the location of the OCS hose and heater mat pigtail (if equipped) as it passes through the seat springs for proper installation.

  15. NOTE: Use care when separating the seat cushion trim cover from the hook-and-loop strips or the hook-and-loop strips may be torn from the seat cushion foam pad.

    Remove the cushion cover from the cushion foam pad.
