Instrument Panel: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging .
  2. Remove the cowl panel. Refer to: Cowl Panel .
  3. NOTE: When releasing the cooling system pressure, cover the coolant expansion tank cap with a thick cloth.

    Pinch off the hose, rotate and position aside the degas bottle. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s). Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  4. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  5. Remove the bolts and the shield.

  6. Remove the nut.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

  7. NOTE: During the removal or installation of components, cap, tape or otherwise appropriately protect all openings and tubes/fittings to prevent the ingress of dirt or other contamination. Remove caps, tape and other protective materials prior to installation.

    Remove the nuts. Discard the O-ring seals and gaskets.

    • Make sure to cover any open ports to prevent debris from entering the system.

      Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

  8. NOTE: During the removal or installation of components, cap, tape or otherwise appropriately protect all openings and tubes/fittings to prevent the ingress of dirt or other contamination. Remove caps, tape and other protective materials prior to installation.

    Remove the flange nut. Discard the O-ring seals and gaskets.

    • Make sure to cover any open ports to prevent debris from entering the system.

      Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

    1. Remove the nut and disconnect the fitting. Discard the O-ring seals and gaskets

      • Make sure to cover any open ports to prevent debris from entering the system.

        Torque: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

    2. Remove the bolts and position aside the A/C thermostatic expansion valve manifold and tube assembly.

      Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  10. Pinch off and disconnect the heater hoses.

  11. Remove both front doors. Refer to: Front Door .
  12. Remove the driver side front seat. Refer to: Front Seat .
  13. Remove the floor console. Refer to: Floor Console - Vehicles With: Single Passenger Seat .
  14. Remove the selector lever boot.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

    1. Remove the selector lever nuts.

    2. Remove the selector lever bolts.

      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

    3. Remove the selector lever cable retainer bolt.

      Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

    4. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the selector lever assembly.

    1. Detach 1 wire harness and 3 electrical connector pin type retainers.
    2. Remove the console bracket bolts.
    3. NOTE: Follow the unique instructions or graphic for this step in installation.
      NOTE: The RCM shield is held to the RCM with adhesive tape.

      Remove the RCM shield and bracket.

    • Position the carpet aside.

    • Disconnect the electrical connectors.

    • Release the harness push pin retainers and position the harness aside.

  20. Remove the lower HVAC ducts.

    • Position aside the weather strip

    • Remove the RH scuff plate.

    NOTE: Make sure that the steering wheel is not rotated while the clockspring is locked in position.
    NOTE: Make sure that the road wheels are in the straight ahead position.

    Remove the bolt.

    Torque: 21 lb.ft (28 Nm)

  40. NOTE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out this step.
    NOTE: Make sure not to damage the instrument panel when removing the instrument panel from the vehicle.
    NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.

    Rotate the instrument panel face down and remove through the RH front door opening.
