Test Procedure

  1. TR1 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) 
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.

    Are DTCs P05C8, P05C9, P071A or P071B present? 

    Yes No
    GO to  TR2. RETURN to SYMPTOM CHARTS for further direction.
  2. TR2 CHECK THE SWITCH 
    • For plug in vehicles,
    • EV Mode Switch connector disconnected.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) EV Mode Switch Connector, Component Side (-) EV Mode Switch Connector, Component Side
      EVM - Pin 4 GND - Pin 3
    • Cycle the EV mode switch.
    • For all others,
    • ECO Mode Switch connector disconnected.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) ECO Mode Switch Connector, Component Side (-) ECO Mode Switch Connector, Component Side
      EVM - Pin 4 GND - Pin 3
    • Cycle the ECO mode switch.

    Does the resistance change from greater than 10K ohms with the switch released to less than 5 ohms with the switch pressed? 

    Yes No
    GO to  TR3. For plug in vehicles, INSTALL a new EV Mode switch. REFER to the Supplemental Restraint System article.
    Clear the SOBDMC DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    For all others, INSTALL a new ECO Mode switch. REFER to the Supplemental Restraint System article.
    Clear the SOBDMC DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  3. TR3 CHECK THE EVM CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • TCM-A connector disconnected.
    • For plug in vehicles,
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) EV Mode Switch Connector, Harness Side (-) TCM-A Connector, Harness Side
      EVM - Pin 4 EVM
    • For all others,
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) ECO Mode Switch Connector, Harness Side (-) TCM-A Connector, Harness Side
      EVM - Pin 4 EVM

    Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes No
    GO to  TR4. REPAIR the open circuit. Clear the SOBDMC DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. TR4 CHECK THE EVM CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • For plug in vehicles,
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) EV Mode Switch Connector, Harness Side (-)
      EVM - Pin 4 Ground
    • For all others,
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) ECO Mode Switch Connector, Harness Side (-)
      EVM - Pin 4 Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms? 

    Yes No
    GO to  TR5. REPAIR the short circuit. Clear the SOBDMC DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. TR5 CHECK THE EVM CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • For plug in vehicles,
    • Measure the voltage between:
      (+) EV Mode Switch Connector, Harness Side (-)
      EVM - Pin 4 Ground
    • For all others,
    • Measure the voltage between:
      (+) ECO Mode Switch Connector, Harness Side (-)
      EVM - Pin 4 Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes No
    REPAIR the short circuit. Clear the SOBDMC DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. GO to PINPOINT TEST Z .
