Selector Lever Cable: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in N, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting .
  2. Remove the steering column shrouds. Refer to: Steering Column Shrouds .
  3. Position the selector lever in D.

    Lower the steering column opening trim panel.

  5. Disconnect the electrical connector(s).

    Remove the screws and the steering column opening trim panel.

  7. Remove the bolts and the steering column reinforcement panel.

  8. Remove the selector cable retainer bolt.

  9. NOTE: Do not pull or pry on the selector lever cable or the selector lever cable end may be damaged. Use a screwdriver and turn the screwdriver as shown to pry the cable end off the post as close to the post as possible.

    Using a screwdriver, disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever mechanism and the steering column.

  10. Remove the screw and position the instrument panel lower center finish panel aside.

  11. Push the rubber grommet and the selector lever cable through the floor pan.

  12. NOTE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable between the manual control lever and the selector lever cable bracket.

    Disconnect the selector lever cable from the manual control lever.

  13. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the upper retainer, use a screwdriver to release the selector lever cable retainer and detach the selector lever cable retainer from the bracket, and remove the selector lever cable.
