Transfer Case Draining and Filling

Draining

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
Remove the transfer case drain plug.
1. Remove the transfer case drain plug and drain the fluid.
2. Clean the transfer case drain plug and the area around transfer case drain plug.
3. Apply thread sealant to the transfer case drain plug threads and install the transfer case drain plug.
  Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

Filling

Remove the transfer case fill plug.
1. Clean the transfer case fill plug and the area around the transfer case fill plug.
2. Remove the transfer case fill plug.

Fill the transfer case with 1.8L (3.8 pt) of clean fluid. The transfer case fluid must be within 10mm (0.393 in) below the fill plug hole.

Install the transfer case fill plug.
1. Apply thread sealant to the transfer case fill plug threads.
2. Install the transfer case fill plug.
  Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)
