Transmission Fluid Level Check

Motorcraft® MERCON® ULV Automatic Transmission FluidXT-12-QULV WSS-M2C949-A, MERCON® ULV

Check 

  1. Connect the diagnostic scan tool to the vehicle. Monitor the TFTPID.
  2. With the engine running in PARK on a level surface make sure the transmission is at normal operating temperature 85-93 deg. C (185-200 deg. F). If necessary, drive the vehicle until the transmission is at normal operating temperature 85-93 deg.C (185-200 deg.F).
  3. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview
  4. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner
  5. Remove the transmission vent.

  6. Install the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner
  7. Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.

  8. With the engine running in PARK, remove the oil leveling plug and check if transmission fluid seeps out of the oil leveling plug hole.

  9. If the transmission fluid does not seep out of the oil leveling plug hole, add clean transmission fluid in increments of 0.25L (0.5 pt) until the transmission fluid is even with the oil leveling plug hole. Use the General Equipment: Funnel

  10. Install the oil leveling plug.

    Torque : 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

  11. Install the underbody shield and the retainers.

  12. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner
  13. Install the transmission vent.
