Front Seat Backrest: Removal

WARNING: The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps required for correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE: Passenger seat shown, driver seat similar.
  1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this article, refer to health and safety warnings in General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

    Refer to: Pyrotechnic Device Health and Safety Precautions .

  2. Remove the front seat cushion. Refer to: Front Seat Cushion  .

    Passenger seat 

  3. Disconnect the SBTS electrical connector.

    All seats 

    1. Remove and discard the front seat backrest bolts.

      Torque: 46 lb.ft (62.5 Nm)

    2. Position the front seat backrest to access the seatbelt anchor and the front seatbelt buckle bolts.

  4. Remove the SBTS bolt and position the seatbelt aside.

    Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

    1. Remove the bolt and position the front seatbelt buckle aside.

      Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

    2. Remove the front seat backrest.

    Passenger seat 

    1. NOTE: A new bolt retaining clip is not required when servicing the seatbelt system.

      Remove and discard the bolt retainer.

    2. Remove and discard the bolt.
    3. NOTE: The spacer is part of the SBTS and must be reused unless installing a new component.

      Remove the spacer.

    Driver seat 

    1. NOTE: A new bolt retaining clip is not required when servicing the seatbelt system.

      Remove and discard the bolt retainer.

    2. Remove and discard the bolt.
    3. NOTE: The spacer is part of the seatbelt anchor and must be reused unless installing a new component.

      Remove the spacer.

    All seats 

    1. NOTE: A new bolt retaining clip is not required when servicing the seatbelt system.

      Remove and discard the bolt retainer.

    2. Remove the bolt.
    3. NOTE: The spacer is part of the seatbelt buckle and must be reused unless installing a new component.

      Remove the spacer.

    4. NOTE: The wave washer is part of the seatbelt buckle and must be reused unless installing a new component.

      Remove the wave washer.

    5. Discard the bolt.

  5. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
    NOTE: Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.

    Remove the front seat recline handle.

    1. Remove the bolt.
    2. Detach the return spring.
