Instrument Panel: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Depower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering .
  2. Remove the selector lever assembly. Refer to: Selector Lever Assembly .
  3. Remove the cowl side trim panel. Refer to: Cowl Side Trim Panel .
  4. Remove the A-Pillar trim panles. Refer to: A-Pillar Trim Panel .
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  7. Release the clips, push pins and remove steering column opening trim panel. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover

  8. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  9. Remove the bolts and the module.

    Torque: 35 lb.in (4 Nm)

  10. Remove the steering column opening reinforcement panel.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  11. WARNING: Do not reuse steering column shaft bolts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column shaft detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).

    Disconnect the steering column shaft and sercure the steering wheel to prevent movement.

    1. Remove and discard the steering column shaft coupler bolt.

      Torque: 150 lb.in (17 Nm)

    2. Separate the steering column from the upper steering column shaft coupler.

  12. Disconnect the electrical connectors, detach the harness retainer and position aside the harness.

  13. Remove the hood latch release handle.

    1. Release the hood latch release handle retaining tabs from the instrument panel.
    2. Release the hood latch release cable from the hood latch release handle mounting bracket.
    3. Remove the hood latch release cable eyelet from the hood latch release handle.

  14. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the bolt.

    Torque: 16 lb.in (1.8 Nm)

  15. Disconnect the electrical connectors and release the harness retainer.

  17. Remove the nusts and position aside the elecrical connector mounting plate.

    Torque: 30 lb.in (3.4 Nm)

  18. Remove the bolt.

    Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  19. Remove the bolts and the LH bracket.

  20. Remove the bolts and the RH bracket.

  21. Release the retainers and remove the center trim panel. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover

    1. Release the retainers and remove the defroster grille panel. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  22. NOTE: Do not fully tigthen until the instrument panel is fully installed in the vehicle.

    Loosen the bolt.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

    1. Remove the bolt,

      Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

    2. Remove the bolts.

  24. Remove the LH trim panel. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover

  25. NOTE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, and assistant is required when carrying out this step.
    NOTE: Make sure not to damage the instrument panel when removing the instrument panel from the vehicle.
    NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connector and wiring and not hindered before removing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.

    Remove the instrument panel through the door opening.
