Valve Cover RH: Installation

  1. NOTE: Installation of new seals is only required if damaged seals were removed.

    If removed, using the special tools, install the spark plug tube seals.Use Special Service Tool: 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer., 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

  3. Install the new valve cover and intake port gaskets.

  4. NOTE: If the valve cover is not installed and the fasteners tightened within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned. To clean the sealing area, use silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.

    Apply an 8 mm (0.31 in) bead of Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the engine front cover-to-cylinder head joints.

    Material: metal cleaner

  5. Install the valve cover and tighten the studbolts, bolts in the sequence shown below.

    Torque: 10 Nm

  6. Make sure the VCT seals in the valve cover are below the top of the VCT oil control solenoid electrical connector or the VCT seal may leak oil.

    • Connect the VCT solenoid electrical connectors.

    • Attach the wiring harness retainers.

  7. Connect the RHTC electrical connector.

  8. Position back the EGR and hand start the fasteners.

  9. Tighten the EGR per the sequence.

    Torque: 10 Nm

  10. Connect the electrical connectors and attach the pin-type retainer.

  11. Loosen the clamp and remove the RH air cleaner outlet pipe.

    Torque: One: 8 Nm Two: 6 Nm

  12. Install the RH air cleaner outlet pipe and tighten the clamp.

    Torque: 5 Nm

  13. Connect the PCM electrical connectors and the pin-type retainer.

  14. Install the RH ignition coil-on-plugs. Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug .
  15. Install the intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
